Toshiba

Toshiba has been around for a long time, since 1939 as a matter of fact. A product of the merging of two companies – Shibaura Seiskusho and Tokyo Denki – the mewly merged company was known for some time as Tokyo Shibaura Denki.

The company soon received its nickname – Toshiba – but it was not until 1978 that the company nickname replaced the longer, more cumbersome title as the official name for the firm.

Toshiba today is one of the largest personal computer vendors in the world. In 2010, it ranked behind HP, Dell, Acer, and Lenovo as the fifth largest, and was ranked as number four in the manufacture of semiconductors – behind Intel, Samsung, and Texas Instruments.
Toshiba has for many years been noted for their high quality personal computers, most notably for their excellent laptop line. The Toshiba Satellite series has been around for quite a few years, and has proven to be most popular.

Toshiba Satellite

The early models of the Satellite did not come equipped with an internal CD-ROM drive, but as the technology progressed and as time passed, these were added to the specs. For these early models, an external CD-ROM drive was required – one that plugged into the rear of the computer – USB technology had not yet been introduced. The early models also had reputation for being rigged and virtually unbreakable, as they were much thicker than today’s models. The Satellite Pro model was added early in the decade, and there are current models of Satellite Pro still being manufactured for sale.
Today, all models of the Satellite come with the latest Microsoft Windows Operating System installed, and most of the screens are now equipped with a glossy widescreen display. The company offers over fifty models for the public to choose from. Each model offers different combination of CPU, RAM, and video options are a mixture of Nvidia or ATI.
In addition to the Satellite, the company offers the Qosimo, Portege and Tecra models.
