Windows Video Editor|Roxio Creator NXT

Windows Video Editor | Roxio Creator NXT

First, let me re-state what I mean when I say “windows video editor”. A windows video editor is a piece of video editing software that is designed to operate on a Microsoft Windows-based operating system. Having said that, I have used several different windows video editor software packages over the last couple of years. Prior to 2012, I had

used the early versions of Roxio Creator from time to time, but not for anything more than very simple projects. In 2013, I downloaded the first version of Roxio Creator NXT and began to use it for some serious projects. Like all good video editor programs, Creator NXT not only edits video, but allows for DVD creation and burning, simple CD and DVD copying, among other features. I found it to be an excellent program, doing everything it was touted to do. Solid, reliable and very well laid out. It came in two versions: NXT and NXT Pro.

Creator NXT 2

Shortly after downloading and testing Creator NXT, Roxio published their next version, Creator NXT2. I repeated the same procedure in testing the earlier version, and found NXT 2 to be a very worthy upgrade to NXT. Still solid, still well laid out, and still relatively easy to use. Aside from the usual new enhancements that all software publishers add to their programs, NXT 2 was a bit more reliable than its predecessor. Again, NXT 2 came in two versions. I again used NXT 2 Standard for testing and for my own use.

My Take

I mentioned earlier that I had reviewed both versions on blogposts that I posted on this web site back in 2012 and 2013. I also mentioned that in moving the data from one web host to another, the original review blog posts were lost with most of the rest of the web content. This is a case where the backup procedures failed. I blame myself most of all since I didn’t do an adequate enough back up on my own machines. Be that as it may, my take on both versions were positive. I mentioned things such as a clear interface, easy to use. The tools for video editing were easy to use, and video editing was relatively easy to do. It is a good windows video editor for those with limited video editing experience and want to experiment. Well worth the money.

Creator NXT 3
September and October seem to be the release months for software versions/upgrades, and September 2014 was no different. Roxio introduced the latest version of Creator, NXT 3. Like previous versions, it comes in two “flavors” (as I am fond of calling them), Standard and Pro. I have not yet downloaded NXT 3, so I cannot review it properly, but I can present it.

What’s New?

Roxio Creator NXT incorporated several different functions, which are actually programs that stand on their own. Paint Shop Pro X6 – the photo editor portion of the program is the feature that seems to have been upgraded and tweaked the most. The tweaks include the following:

Intuitive 1-2-3 interface guides you as you Manage, Adjust and Edit photos New
Create impressive photos with pro-quality tools, including RAW image editing, layers, HDR and more New
• Experiment with an incredible collection of effects to get unique results New

Transform photos with graphic design tools, including brushes, textures, lettering and vector tools New
In looking over the New Features an Overview, I get the impression that most of Roxio’s energies went into this part of the upgrade. Both versions of NXT 3 are impressive, although most of the Blu-ray authoring functions require a plug-in on Standard edition, while they are built into the Pro version.
I recommend you check out the Roxio Creator Page, This is an impressive program, and I look forward to downloading the Pro Version of NXT 3. Now that I have a Blu-ray burner, HD authoring on BE discs should be interesting.

Requirements
In my earlier blogposts, I was always careful to list the requirements necessary to operate the program on a Windows PC. I was then, and still am careful to point out these requirements were the minimum requirements needed to make the program operate properly. I am sure that you remember the statement “Less is more?” Well, in the case of windows video editor programs, this statement should be changed to “More is better!” The general rule to be observed is the more powerful processor, video card; the more RAM your machine has, the better and more efficiently your program will work. With that in mind, here is a list of minimum requirements necessary for Roxio Creator NXT 3:
